Symbolon explains the essentials of the Catholic Faith in a way that will inform our minds and inspire our hearts. It was filmed on location in Rome, the Holy Land, Calcutta, and elsewhere, and features nationally-known teachers and scholars, including Edward Sri, Tim Gray, Curtis Martin, Mary Healy, Teresa Tomeo, and many others. It is presented in ten sessions acting as a springboard for the small group discussions:
Session #1: The Bible: God's Love Letter to Humanity Session #2: The Sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation Session #3: The Eucharist: Source and Summit of Christian Life Session #4: Walk through the Mass: Exploring the Sacred Liturgy Session #5: Penance and Anointing of the Sick: Virtue, Grace, and the Path to Happiness Session #6: Matrimony and Holy Orders: The Sacraments of Service and Communion Session #7: Mary and the Saints: Our Spiritual Mother and the Communion of Saints Session #8: A Catholic Moral Vision: Virtue, Grace, and the Path to Holiness Session #9: Catholic Social Teaching: Protecting the Dignity of the Human Person Session #10: Death, Heaven, Hell, Purgatory: The Last Things
A Typical Evening at Symbolon
Part 1: Each gathering begins with a meal and conversation. This is a time of relaxation and fun.
Part 2: Guests are welcomed and the evening's topic is introduced.
Part 3: Then there is a short video that looks at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week.
Part 4: A short reading follows the video.
Part 5: The second part of the video is presented.
Part 6: A time of small group discussion follows where everyone is welcome to contribute opinions and ask questions. People will usually stay in the same small group for the duration of Symbolon so they will get to know one another, continue discussions and deepen friendships.
